Ivan & Maricela are here!

By Kit Rocha Leave a Comment Apr 2

The third book in Gideon’s Riders is here! Family intrigue, bodyguarding hijinks, lots of longing, forbidden love, passionate smooches and, of course, a happy ending! You can buy it at any of these ebook retailers: Direct (DRM Free), Amazon (Global Link), Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Apple, Google

To help you out with keeping track of the players in Sector One, we have created (very abbreviated) family trees of those pesky noble families and a breakdown of the Riders. You definitely don’t need to know who all the various uncles, grandparents and cousins are, but it might help you get an idea of who is related to who! (People who have never appeared in any of the books, even by mention, are grayed out.)

Ivan

Gideon’s Riders, Book Three

As the sheltered princess of Sector One, Maricela’s life is defined by duty: to her people and to her family. Her wealth and influence have allowed her to build a better world, but they come with a price—the responsibility to secure political stability with a practical marriage. Maricela cherishes the idea of marrying for love, but there’s not much romance in the endless line of suitors interested only in prestige and power.

And her handsome, brooding new bodyguard isn’t helping the situation.

Ivan is the perfect, deadly warrior, a man trained from childhood to be the ultimate protector to the Rios family. His focus on keeping her safe is intense–and a little intoxicating. When the threat of danger cracks his icy control, Maricela realizes she’s not the only one fighting against temptation.

Ivan knows that the blood on his hands makes him unworthy of the pure-hearted princess. But from the first kiss, their forbidden affair feels inevitable. He can give her a glimpse of life outside her gilded cage and a lover who wants the woman instead of the crown. The only thing he can never do is promise her forever.

Because spurning her noble suitors to marry her bodyguard wouldn’t just be a scandal. It could set off a political firestorm that would tear Sector One apart.

Beyond Series Rebrand!

By Kit Rocha Leave a Comment Jan 29

It’s been a long time since we started the Beyond Series–almost six years, in fact! While we love the old covers of the series, it’s time for a fresh look. So we’ve spent the last few weeks overhauling our covers and some of our oldest blurbs to hopefully have a chance of bringing the books to a new audience of readers!

(Note: if you like your books to match and are worried, don’t be! You can still get the old covers at www.okaneforlife.com)

And here they are… the new covers!

We’ve also refreshed some of the blurbs! Check out the new blurb for Beyond Shame below.  (And if you’re new here, you can download Beyond Shame for free on any online vendor!)

Beyond Shame

All Noelle Cunningham has ever wanted was a life beyond–beyond her stifling role as a prim and proper councilman’s daughter, and beyond the walls of the patriarchal city of Eden, the only remnants of safety in a world destroyed by solar storms decades earlier. But when she’s banished for violating the prohibition against immorality, she’s unprepared for the lawless world outside the city’s walls.

The sectors surrounding Eden house those abandoned to fend for themselves–men like Jasper McCray, bootlegger and cage fighter. Jas clawed his way up from nothing to stand at the right hand of Sector Four’s ruthless leader, and he’ll defend the O’Kane gang with his life. But fighting hasn’t prepared him for dealing with a sheltered City princess who falls at his feet.

Her innocence is undeniable, but so is her intense sexual curiosity. Soon they’re exploring every dark fantasy she’s ever been ashamed to have. But if Noelle wants to claim her place with the O’Kanes and at Jas’s side, she’ll have to find the courage to embrace something even more terrifying than her own desires.

Her own power.

We’re so excited about these new covers! Beyond Shame features Noelle, caught in a raw, vulnerable moment just before she comes to life. Behind her is the Broken Circle–shelves of liquor bottles just waiting to be poured. All of the soon-to-be-revealed covers will feature a heroine, because while the O’Kane gentlemen are badass and scary, the O’Kane ladies are life.

An Excerpt from Ivan!

By Kit Rocha Leave a Comment Jan 4

A picture of Maricela (tall, brunette, latina, dressed in a white dress) in front of a fountain behind two stone arches in the center of a garden maze.

We are working on Ivan and hoping to have a pre-order up once we know how our schedule and our editor’s will mesh this time around. But in the meantime, you can sign up for a release day alert here.

In the meantime, enjoy this (unedited!) excerpt that takes place at the Reyes estate during the summer festival. Ivan and Maricela have navigated a hedge maze to the fountain at the center.

* * *

The music from the party was a soft, distant hum. The voices had faded away completely. It was peaceful here, with the gentle music of water over stone and the wind through the leaves on the hedges and nothing but the clean smell of earth and plants and nature.

Maricela belonged in a place like this. Outside, under the stars. Not trapped in her house, or stuck between swaggering suitors who leaned too close and whispered constant invitations she had to pretend not to understand.

The breeze tugged at the ends of her long hair, tossing it across her face, and his fingers itched to smooth it back into place. Before he could give into temptation, she reached up and tucked the rogue strand behind her ear.

The silence between them wasn’t comfortable. It was charged, her last words hanging there like a tense challenge. “We can’t be lovers,” he said softly, a reminder as much for himself as for her. “But we can be friends.”

“Yes.” She smiled, and the tension dissolved. “What did you think of the dinner?”

A lifetime of habit almost had him locking down his reaction, as was proper in the presence of a Rios. But the word friend hovered in the air still, so he reacted like he would have to a Rider.

He rolled his eyes.

Her laughter rang through the small courtyard. “I’ll have you know, that was some of the finest seafood money can’t buy. Didn’t you notice the Petrov heir at our table? The one who wasn’t being a creep?” She sank to one of the benches. “I’m sure that’s how Estela got her hands on enough lobster to feed fifty people.”

“Alexei Petrov?” He straddled the opposite side of the bench so he could keep an eye on her and keep the maze entrance in his peripheral vision. “So that’s how the seating arrangement works? People bribe Estela Reyes to get close to you?”

“That’s how this whole week works.” She ticked the list off on her fingers matter-of-factly. “Basic line of sight, that’s cheap. But you have to pony up if you want your son or daughter seated next to me at a meal or concert. And don’t even ask how much it costs to get them a room assignment near mine.”

Disgust at the sheer awfulness of it all rose, and Ivan didn’t try to hide it. “They better not think they’re getting into your room without an invitation.”

“Oh, no. Never. It’s not about force.” She leaned closer and lowered her voice. “It’s about access. The opportunity to influence. The same thing happens to Gideon and Isabela, for different reasons. Hell, Deacon and Ana weren’t shoved at a table in the corner with the rest of the Riders who don’t come from noble families, were they?”

He thought back, summoning the placement of the various Riders from memory. He’d expected Gabe, Hunter and Reyes to be seated prominently, but Deacon had been at a table next to the West matriarch, and Ana had been tucked between Gabe’s parents. “Because Ana’s father’s going to be sainted?”

“Maybe,” Maricela allowed. “William belonged to the Riders, but I’m not sure it matters. We talk about how your families give you up when you take your vows, but those ties never really seem to die. Not on a gut level.”

No, they didn’t. Not the ties to the saints. Not the ties to the traitors. In his life, Ivan had faced both–younger people who begged him to ask his father for a special blessing, and older people who eyed him with an air of wariness, no doubt remembering the havoc and pain his uncles had wrought on their beloved royal family.

“It’s complicated,” he murmured. And normally that would have been all he said, all he cared to say, but talking to Maricela was…easy, somehow. “There’s only just the two of us, you know. Me and Ana. And Gideon hadn’t even officially formed the Riders before my father died. We don’t fit into the rules and customs. So people see us how they want to see us.”

“How do they see you?”

The marble bench had a tiny crack along one side. Ivan traced it with his thumb. “All I ever wanted to be was a Rider. But when I first showed up to a trial, people were furious. They didn’t want a traitor’s nephew in Gideon’s inner circle. It had been more than ten years, but that’s all they saw when they looked at me. Bad blood.”

She sucked in a breath. “That’s horrible.”

It hadn’t felt horrible. It had felt deserved, a guilt he’d internalized after years of lessons from his mother, who had never forgiven herself for not seeing what was happening all around her.

“Your cousin is the one who stepped up for me. Mad. Even though my uncles had kidnapped him and killed his parents, he stood up for me. No one was willing to fight with him over it.” Ivan shrugged and glanced up at her. “Becoming a Rider means your family is supposed to give you up. It doesn’t mean the Sector will let you to give up your family. Just ask Reyes, or Gabe or Hunter.”

“That’s true.” Her stormy expression cleared as she patted his hand. “I’m glad you were able to find your way.”

Her fingertips burned over his skin, and she didn’t even realize. If being friends meant Maricela planned to shower him with sweet, oblivious touches, he’d drastically miscalculated.

This was torture.

He tensed the muscles in his body, consciously exerting control. He had to find a way to go back to before she’d tilted their world on its side. He couldn’t imagine Maricela’s husky murmur to use your tongue and think of just how easy it would be here.

He could stretch her back on the bench and coax her dress up her long legs. Use his tongue anywhere and everywhere until her hoarse cries drowned out the sound of the fountain and the stars were dancing above her.

He could take care of her.

He could go to hell.

Blake: The Protector

Now that we’re back to working on the Last Pack stories (which we’ll be releasing as Kit Rocha going forward) it’s time for me to actually spend a little time talking about the Last Pack! Which means for the next few weeks, I’m going to introduce you to one badass pack member per week.

(Remember: Part One is currently on sale for just $0.99! , or you can get the complete bundle of the first serial for $4.99 here.)

This week we’re going to talk about BLAKE!

Blake is the hero of Protecting their Mate. He’s the alpha’s second-in-command, a very accomplished cage-fighter and an all around badass. Unlike some of his pack brothers, Blake isn’t very good at navigating the human world. He finds humans annoying and confusing, and has a hard time leashing his less human nature when he has to engage with them. As a result, humans tend to be uneasy around him–most sense the inner predator.

But being in touch with his inner-beast makes him the perfect person to help his heroine, Ashley, as she tries to understand her own suppressed nature. And even though he longs to claim her as his mate, he knows that Ashley is the one who gets to decide–and he’ll do whatever it takes to help her discover herself.

Here’s an introduction to Blake in his own POV…

* * *

Whatever had killed Landon Todd had done him a favor. Because if Ashley’s father had still been alive, Blake would have found a very, very painful way to relieve him of the condition.

The girl was starving, maybe literally. God only knew how long she’d been trapped in that basement, burning up with the fever of the mating heat. She was still flushed with it, but the rules of survival—food, then sex—seemed to have taken the edge off for the moment.

But watching her eat her cheeseburger wasn’t taking the edge off his rage. It wasn’t hard to starve a werewolf. A few hours without food ramped up his temper. Four days would have him chewing through concrete. And that was just the latest of too many atrocities, the final fucking outrage.

She burned with magic. Burned so, so bright. Dumbing themselves down with human lives and human urges might have worked for the Todds, but they were idiots for thinking it would work for their daughter. Blake could feel her wolf from here, a wild, hungry creature determined to break free.

He wondered if she’d ever changed. Most of the wolves who lived along humans didn’t. They forgot what they were, where they came from. They forgot how to be anything but helpless sheep, and they raised their offspring to be ashamed and controlled.

If you stifled magic long enough, it died like a flame deprived of oxygen.

Usually.

Ashley finished her burger. He dragged her empty plate toward him and pushed his own into its place. “Eat that, too.”

Her dark brows drew together over darker eyes. “No, thank you.”

The defiance grated. He could only handle so much, and he’d been choking down his instincts since setting foot in that basement. She was in pain. So many different kinds of pain, and the worst—

Even here, in the restaurant, surrounded by sleepy waitresses and even sleepier truckers, she was turned on. He could smell her arousal. He could damn near taste it. He wanted to slide under the table and shove her thighs wide. Then he could taste her for real, feel that sweet wetness on his tongue. Make her come hard enough to ease the fever.

Or maybe getting off without getting fucked would just make it worse. Maybe the only way to ease it was to work his cock into her. He didn’t know. Most wolves wouldn’t. That had been the first sign of the failing bloodlines—fewer and fewer females going into heat. Fewer and fewer wolves finding mates.

She had an ache he couldn’t fix, but there was one hunger he could cure. Meeting her gaze, he leaned across the table and put the harsh edge of command in his voice. “Eat the burger, Ashley. You need it.”

Fire sparked in her eyes, and the faintest growl formed low in her throat. She broke the spell a moment later by looking away. “I haven’t had a meal in days. If I eat too much, too fast, I’ll be sick. Trust me.”

Rage spiked again, not at the words but at the resigned experience behind them. She knew. She knew because it wasn’t the first time she’d been starved.

He wanted to drive back to her house and kill her worthless father a second time.

“Fine.” He was too pissed off to mess with the waitress. Some of the others in the pack could pass, even when they were angry, but Blake wasn’t one of them. Humans sensed the predator in him, and had a tendency to get nervous, even call the cops.

He couldn’t afford that hassle, not tonight. So he dug too many bills out of his wallet and dumped them on the table. That was the useful thing about humans—they ignored their survival instincts when you waved enough money under their noses.

The room wasn’t far. The motel was a dump, but dumps were useful for the same reason—a lot of cash up front and no one spared you a second glance. Blake steered Ashley toward their room and didn’t relax until they were both locked on the other side. “I’ll pick us up something else to eat in a few hours.”

“Okay.” She nodded too fast. She was breathing too fast.

Her arousal was inescapable. Her flushed cheeks, her tight nipples, the unsteady gulps of air that lifted those full, beautiful breasts. Somewhere, lost under his rage and the hunger triggered by her own, he knew it was wrong. She was on shaky ground, weakened by the mistreatment and neglect of a father she was probably still mourning. Those were excellent reasons not to put his hands on her.

But she’d like having his hands on her, and that was one reason to do it anyway.

The King & Queen are here in Beyond Forever!

Dallas & Lex are here!

Well, okay, they’ve been here, but Bree & Donna had a bit of a rough week last week when Bree had to say goodbye to her beloved dog and then decided to fight the pain with the joy of a new, excitable puppy.

Did you know puppies pee a lot and chew everything? True story! They also don’t respond well to, “I can’t hold you right now, I have to compose a blog post.”  (But omg, isn’t she cute?)

Now that Bree & sweet baby puppy have come to a tentative arrangement (she spends 99% of her non-work time loving on a puppy) it’s time to celebrate the story that takes you all the way back to the beginning…

Before they were King & Queen…

Six years before the Beyond series started, an ambitious bootlegger named Dallas O’Kane caught a very pretty thief named Lex with her hand in his safe.

The rest is very sexy history.

In Beyond Forever, follow Dallas and Lex through the turning points in their relationship, from the night he caught her trying to rob him, through his rise to successful bootlegger, to legend, to Sector Leader–with Lex always there, willing to give him the push he needs.

Beyond Forever is a prequel novella that jumps through time to tell the story of the biggest moments in the formation of the O’Kanes and their King and Queen. It will be far more enjoyable if you’ve already read Beyond Control, and contains spoilers for the entire Beyond series.

Ebook: Buy Direct (DRM-free), Amazon (Global Link), Barnes & Noble, Kobo, iBooks

Welcome!

By Kit Rocha Leave a Comment Oct 13

Hey there!

Welcome to the home on the web of Kit Rocha, also known as Bree & Donna. (Also known as Moira Rogers, Joelle Knox or Mia Thorne.)  <– look at all those names! That’s a lot of names, we know. So this new and improved website is our first step in our slow plan to streamline our online presence for the convenience of our readers and ourselves. We’re in the process of gathering all of our various titles here. Some we’ll leave under the name Moira Rogers, but going forward we’ll mostly be writing as Kit Rocha.

We currently have two worlds we’re actively writing in:

  • Eden & the Sectors Series Page – we’re currently working on Gideon’s Riders, but you can view all of the books set in the sectors there!
  • The Last Pack Series Page: Originally published as Mia Thorne & republished as Moira Rogers, we’re completing our triumvirate of confusion by publishing the new books going forward as Kit Rocha. Do I feel a tiny bit silly about spending all that time reissuing them as Moira Rogers only to flip around and start doing this? Yes! Will that stop me? No! The goal is to minimize confusion in the long term…so this is how we’re going to do it.

One week until Ana & Deacon…

By Kit Rocha Leave a Comment Aug 22

On Sale August 29th, 2017
Amazon, Apple, Kobo, Barnes & Noble

Ana has trained most of her life to achieve one goal: to prove that anything men can do, she can do better. Now she’s Sector One’s first female Rider, and being the best is the only way to ensure she won’t be its last. Distractions aren’t allowed–especially not her painful attraction to the reserved but demanding leader whose stern, grumpy demeanor has already gotten into her head.

Deacon has spent the last twenty years trying to atone for his past, but the blood he spilled as a mercenary and assassin will never wash away entirely. If his Riders knew the extent of his sins, he’d lose their trust and respect. It’s easier to keep them all at arm’s length, especially Ana. But his newest recruit’s stubbornness is starting to crack his defenses.

And their sparring matches are driving him wild.

The passion sparking between them can’t be denied, but neither can the vengeance barreling toward Deacon. When his old squad comes back to punish him for his betrayal, Ana and the Riders are squarely in the line of fire. The only way to save his people may be to make the ultimate sacrifice.

But first, he has to convince Ana not to follow him straight into hell.

* * *
With just a week to go, enjoy one more excerpt from Deacon!
* * *

Ana spent an afternoon and evening being frustrated with Deacon. When he skipped the training session she’d arranged with Ashwin, the confusing tangle of emotions churning in her middle boiled into hot anger. But when he didn’t appear the next day—not for breakfast, not during their afternoon debriefing, not even for dinner—her anger twisted with infuriating shards of sympathy and performed some sort of sinister magic.

By the time Ana was sprawled on top of her brightly colored quilt, still clad in her sweatpants and sports bra, guilt had wiggled its way deep into her heart and planted hooks that left her bleeding.

She knew what she’d put on Deacon. She knew it like no one else but Gideon could know. It was the truth that drove her out of bed before dawn and settled in her bones as a soft ache when she’d trained too hard. It was the weight that kept her up some nights, staring at the stucco ceiling by the light of a single flickering candle, her restless mind refighting sparring matches she’d lost.

Being worshipped was a double-edged sword.

She still remembered the first time it had happened to her. Every detail of the moment was carved into memory. Ivan’s gray T-shirt with the rip along the hem. The faint smell of paint from her newly detailed motorcycle. The vague throb of the fresh ink on her shoulder, and the way the breeze tickled over the bare skin of her arms—she’d worn a tank top that day deliberately, proudly.

Showing off her Rider tattoo.

The little girl had been nine or ten. Brown skin a few shades lighter than Ana’s, with silky black hair as curly as Ana’s own. She’d shaken free of her mother’s hand and bolted across the parking lot as Ana kicked down the stand on her bike, her big eyes going impossibly wide.

“Girls can be Riders?”

With that sweet, innocent question, Ana’s life had changed forever.

She’d loved it, that first time. And the second, and the third. Even the tenth time still made her heart leap. But after three short months, she’d been swallowed whole by the hopes of dozens upon dozens of little girls—

And she hadn’t seen it coming.

She should have. The other Riders always attracted excited young boys and swaggering teens. Kids didn’t understand the more serious implications of a Rider’s duties. They didn’t understand death. They just saw heroes, larger than life and celebrated by the sector—and they wanted to be heroes, too.

The boys had never doubted they could achieve that goal. But the girls… The intensity of their newborn excitement clung to Ana like invisible threads wrapping her tighter and tighter. Their dreams weighed ten thousand pounds.

Ana had to carry them alone.

No wonder she’d lashed out at Deacon. Even when he scraped her nerves raw, he’d always been a solid, unshakable foundation. The hero of heroes, uncompromising and unchanging. The wall she threw herself against in order to toughen up. She needed him to be something more than human so she could believe it was possible. Because a human couldn’t hold up under the pressure Ana felt every time a little girl’s eyes lit up at the sight of her. A human would falter. Fall. Eventually, it had to happen.

Deacon’s fall had wounded a dozen people. Ana’s would break the hearts of thousands.

Behold…cover #4!

By Kit Rocha Leave a Comment Jul 13

We are finishing up the last few chapters of Deacon this week, so now feels like a good time to talk about what happens next! And we are so excited to reveal the fourth cover in Gideon’s Riders. Gene Mollica has knocked it out of the park on all of these covers, but I really feel like this one is something special.

The models brought it and my vague instructions were something along the lines of “I want it soft and romantic and cherry blossoms maybe but also post-apocalyptic still” and you gotta admit… those are some pretty tough instructions to nail. Luckily, Gene is an art wizard.

You can confirm exactly who those characters are on the book page (sorry, these titles are a little spoilery in and of themselves) but I gotta say, we can. not. wait. to write this book. (But after we write Ivan. Because we also can. not. wait. to write that one. God, this job is sweet.)

In the meantime, if you haven’t started the series, grab Ashwin ASAP! Deacon comes out on August 29th and you’ll want to be ready. Ana and Deacon are dangerous, badass, totally unstoppable and also love to have smoking hot sex. Athletic sex maybe even. 😀 Click on the covers below for purchase & preorder links!
